Explorations of Astrology through Creative Practice (a sample of artwork)

Explorations of Archetypes + Astrology through Creative Practice (from IN THE STARS participants with Hali Karla Arts) I'm not really crazy about calling the participants in my program IN THE STARS 'my students.' Because I learn so very much from them, and because I consider myself a student as well... a perpetual, enthusiastic and inquisitive student of this miracle of Life.

And for me, that includes a voracious appetite for topics like creative practice, spirituality as a way of seeing and navigating relations+actions, healing (not because we're broken, but because we're whole AND we all suffer at some point), and, of course, astrology.

While I am often wearing the hat of 'teacher' for IN THE STARS, I am no 'expert' at creative practice OR astrology. I know that is counter-intuitive to what I'm 'supposed' to say as someone guiding a class on the topics, but I see myself as more like a practitioner. And I see my online courses and programs more like circles.... I bring the 'guts' of the tour into the creative cosmos, sure, and we each have a unique inner and outer experience along the way, but we make the overall journey what it is together.

As for astrology... well, I've just been compiling my own immersive astrological studies over the past few years, seeing so much inspiration and connection within its language of symbolism, and how it can help, celebrate and guide people back to center within themselves. I love exploring the wonder and beautiful questions that arise as we look at our own personal birth charts... like a crystallized moment in time that speaks to our soul's nature and calling from the Creator who made each of us.

I suppose I actually serve more as a messenger, or translator in IN THE STARS. A messenger full of ideas to share and questions to explore. A translator who sees the big connections and loves inviting others to their own holistic-creative exploration of what lies beyond first impressions and outdated stories, the illusion of absolutes, and rigid patterns. (In case you're wondering: I have Mercury in Aquarius in the 5th house, along with my Pisces Sun, and among other chart indicators that make this make sense...)

My hope for my participants is that they finish (or continue) their exploration IN THE STARS knowing, accepting and loving themselves a little more clearly, including how they relate to and love others, what they need and how they innately shine in their unique nature of giving, receiving, expressing, and being conscious.

Consciousness about the fullness of our wholly-ness - about life as an active living relationship to engage with, and our unique natures as a call to participate - can offer landscapes of possibility and perspective, as well as simply the blessed space to BE who and how Creator made us.

So today, I'm sharing a 'gallery' of sorts from just a sampling of participant work IN THE STARS so far this year.

astrological birth chart explorations in creative practice (participant art from IN THE STARS)

Each month IN THE STARS, participants listen to audio and video reflections & lessons, accept guided invitations to explore their personal birth chart, journal their responses and reflections to prompts, and engage with creative practice invitations in their art journal.

Each month has a theme to explore planetary, sign and house symbolism, how it relates to our own chart placements and what it means to them in the practical reality and inner/outer experiences of their life story. We get together for questions, inspiration, support and sharing, too.

What you see in today's post are visual 'stories', or moments of responsive expression, of participants' personal explorations, used with permission.

I'm keeping the works anonymous here in this public space... because sharing in IN THE STARS is totally optional and our process is not about outcome focused art-making. It's about developing a meaningful relationship with one's chart, intuition and creative practice... and how we can listen to our own personal process and life, and trust what we discover when we do so in a way that does not evoke performative expectations within us or inhibit our truth from revealing itself.

So I share these today as an offering of inspiration - that each of us can have a creative practice unique to ourselves, whether we ever share it with anyone else or not.

We do a lot of exploring instinctive impulses and how things feel when we create IN THE STARS, not what we would necessary like things to look like or what they might look like if we exercised our usual patterns of control. We do a fair amount of imagining and dreaming in color and line, too!

I'm wildly grateful for the wisdom and creativity of ALL the participants in IN THE STARS, whether they ever choose to share their pages, paintings and insights, or not. For how they have bravely, honestly looked at themselves and their lives in ways that are not always easy as they've explored.

I hope by seeing a sample of some of their colorful pages today, you may feel inspired in your own creative practice and journey of knowing yourself, keeping it real, seeking, dreaming and discovery as well.

In The Stars 2018: Early-Bird Registration Is Open

mixed-media art journal spread made IN THE STARS (creative practice + astrology with Hali Karla) Last week, registration for IN THE STARS 2018 officially opened - and spots are now being filled with those signing up at the limited-time early-bird rate (good until November 1).

I'm so excited for the newcomers who will be taking the journey to explore their personal astrological birth chart alongside and within their reflective and creative practice!

And what is really just causing my heart to overflow with even more love - is how many of my 2017 participants are returning for the second voyage IN THE STARS with me next year.

I am so thrilled to come back to the “Stars”in 2018! I am so happy you are offering it again. I am thoroughly enjoying my journey this year & have learned so much about myself and my creative practice! - 2017 participant

IN THE STARS is an inspiring exploration for a soulful, creative or art journaling practice, that is personalized through the relationship you develop along the way with your very own birth chart.

The 12-month program comes not only with gently paced, in-depth lessons and prompts on the symbolism of the zodiac signs, astrological houses, planetary archetypes and the relationships between them in *your* chart - but also guided Creative Practice Invitations each month, as well.

Each of the following themes for our exploration centers around a core placement in your chart…

1 :: Shining True & Through 2 :: Mirrors, Mysteries & Intuition 3 :: Mischief, Stories & Perceptions 4 :: In Love, Beauty & Creation 5 :: emPower & Protect 6 :: Uplift, Beyond Limits 7 :: The long-haul: Focus & Great Works 8 :: Wake Up & Break Free, True-To-You 9 :: Fly High: Spirit & Dreams 10 :: Power, Shadows & The Persistent Unconscious 11 :: Initiating Healing & The Key of Connection 12 :: Going From Here: Your Evolutionary Journey

Over the course of the journey, we begin to unfold, reveal and discover the layers and relationships between the themes as well - making this a truly holistic lens and framework to explore ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we show up in the world.

I had some fun making this short video about the program, with a negative filter on one of my birth-chart mandalas in-process:

There are lots of NEW features and lessons coming in the 2018 exploration, as well - including 4 new guest contributors (plus, one returning).

Guest contributors (with Hali Karla) for IN THE STARS 2018!

The 2018 guest contributors on the schedule so far are pictured above with me: M. Ruth McCants, PhD (astrologer & musician), Sandra "Sunny" Mosley (astrologer & mandala artist), Whinnie Calhoun Slattery (biologist plant teacher, artist & astrology student), Kiala Givehand (bookbinder, art journaler & astrology student), and April Miller McMurtry (artist & founder of The Moon is My Calendar).

Each will be bringing a special lesson or offering to the program to inspire and enhance the journey. They've all been part of the 2017 program, as well... which is a big reason why I wanted to have them come back - but this time to share some of their special gifts, wisdom and insights.

In December 2017, we will begin with a special lesson from Kiala - as she guides us in making our very own (optional) handmade Book of Stars to accompany our journaling practices. It will be perfect for you to add to as you explore, as a keepsake documenting important discoveries and insights about *your* personal placements.

ALSO - Everyone who signs up to join us before the end of the year, will automatically be entered in a giveaway drawing I'm holding, as well - for either a birth chart or transit reading with me, or two customized, intuitive birth chart mandalas (perfect for you and a spouse, friend or child, or as a gift to an art-loving loved one).

You can read all the details, learn more and reserve your seat to join us IN THE STARS RIGHT HERE.

And do let me know if you have any questions about the program!

Art Journal Inspiration {21 Secrets Love}

These gorgeous, colorful pages were created by some of the women in my class, Imagine You, in the 21 Secrets Workshop!

It just makes me grin, ear to ear, to see these bold, intuitive pages - so rich with individuality and life! Aside from the pages themselves, it has been such a pleasure and honor to read about how the process in Imagine You felt for the artists, and how it has opened up fresh ways to approach art journaling.

Because this intuitive creative process isn't just an easy-weasy, do-what-you-please, anyone-can-do-it approach to artmaking - contrary to what many believe.

Granted, it can be so liberating and pure fun, at times... not to mention eye-opening and healing... but it takes work to stay with your pure intuition when your mind always wants to come in and have the final say.

The best part, though, is that no matter how hard it is when you start, you can't really get it wrong... because right where you start, and right where you end up, is exactly where you're supposed to be.

Your job is to just show up and notice what goes on inside of you, while honoring what wants to come out instinctually, organically, naturally.

That's what I offer in Imagine You - some fresh approaches on how to stay open, while shaking up the mind a bit, so your intuition & imagination can lead into those original, creative places inside you that otherwise might have stayed buried.

That's why I love seeing these pages, and feel proud that they each agreed to let me share them... because we get to see the uniquely beautiful, creative energy of each artist shining from them!
